Welcome to Uplift Local!

Uplift Local is a community news network developed by three longtime Oregon journalists representing an innovative form of participatory journalism. Their program was developed over three years of research, surveying, and interviewing of over 3,500 residents of Oregon and southwest Washington, and they are involved in communities in the Columbia River Gorge across four counties on both sides of the river.

Uplift Local offers free, relevant local news and information available in the languages that people prefer on the platforms that they use. They train and pay people to take notes at local public meetings through their civic engagement program called Documenters. They also offer training and jobs to community members who want to learn to be journalists. They are dedicated to engaging communities, rebuilding a sense of place, pushing back on misinformation, and opening the newsroom to involve more people in solving the problem of how people get the information they need and want.
